The guide's right about the Donghu night market but I'd say go a bit later, around 8:30 PM, when the crowd thins out and the vendors start offering better deals on the bigger seafood platters. I got a mixed grilled platter with shrimp, squid, and scallops for 25 RMB that way, which is normally 40.

For a proper local breakfast, skip the tourist spots and find the soy milk shop on Chaoyang Road, it's just a white storefront with a yellow sign. Their salty soy milk with youtiao and pickled radish costs 8 RMB total, and it's the best way to start a day of eating around the city.

tbh the guide nailed it with Haixian Lou but I'd add that their steamed garoupa is best ordered with a side of their house-made fermented tofu dip, it's like 3 RMB extra and totally worth it. also if you're hitting Donghu night market try the fried oyster omelette from the lady three stalls down from the grilled squid spot, she's been there for like 15 years and her batter is way crispier than the main ones. one thing the guide missed is the little taro ball soup stall near the south gate of Donghu Park, it's just a cart but the old guy makes them fresh and they're like 8 RMB for a bowl, perfect for a late night snack.

ngl the guide's pretty solid but they're sleeping on the breakfast scene. there's this spot on Xingye Road near the old bus station, no english sign just a red awning, that does a mean oyster vermicelli soup for like 12 RMB. they put these tiny dried shrimp in the broth that gives it this insane umami kick, way better than the touristy places on Donghu Road

also if you're into tea, skip Qingxin and go to the tiny shop at No. 7 Chayuan Alley instead. it's run by this old couple who roast their own white tea, a pot is only 25 RMB and they'll let you sit there for hours. the peanut cakes are homemade too, 3 RMB each, and they do a really good osmanthus jelly in the summer

honestly the best meal I had there was just wandering the alleys behind Nanmen Street around 7pm. there's a family that sets up these little tables and does stir-fried clams with basil and chili for 18 RMB a plate, plus they have cold beer for 5 RMB. no sign, no menu, just follow the smell of garlic and you'll find it

This is a solid itinerary, especially the Xiapu day. A few things I'd add from experience. The Donghu night view is nice but gets crowded with local dancers and singers, so if you want a quieter evening, walk to the north side of the lake near the sports center. Also, the Taimu Mountain hike is tougher than it sounds, bring more water than you think you need, there's only one shop near the summit and it's overpriced. For the Xiapu mudflats, check the tide tables before you go, low tide is essential for the best reflections and the S-Bend shot, and you can ask any hotel front desk to look it up for you.

yeah this is a great route, i've done almost the exact same trip. the one thing i'd flag is the timing on day 1, if you finish the museum and temple by like 3pm, you've got a couple hours to kill before the sunset. instead of just waiting, walk east from the temple down bayu road, there's a little alley market around block 47 that sells dried persimmons and these amazing peanut cakes, only open in the afternoon. grab a bag for the taimu hike the next day.

for the mountain, the bus from ningde station is fine but check if it's the express one, the regular bus stops at like 8 villages and takes almost an hour. the express is marked with a yellow sign, leaves on the hour. also the bamboo rice at the base is good but the real move is the fried river shrimp from the old lady with the blue cart near the ticket gate, 15 RMB a portion, way better than the restaurant stuff.

xiapu tip nobody mentions: the photography museum has a small balcony on the second floor with a decent view of the mudflats, but the real hidden spot is the roof of the seafood market building, you can walk up the fire escape and get a 360 view of the whole bay. just go before 11am when the market gets crazy busy

great plan, covers the essentials well. one thing i'd add for the downtown day is that the Ningde Museum has a small exhibit on the She ethnic minority that's easy to miss, it's in the back room past the ceramics hall. their traditional clothing and silverwork is really distinctive, worth a quick look.

for Taimu Mountain, the bamboo rice at the base is fine but if you're willing to walk another 5 minutes past the village, there's a family-run place called Auntie Chen's that does a better version with pork belly wrapped in the bamboo, about 45 RMB. they'll also refill your water bottle for free if you ask nicely.

the Xiapu mudflat timing is key but also consider going to the north side of the S-Bend instead of the main viewing platform, it's less crowded and the light hits differently in the morning. there's a small path behind the souvenir stalls that leads there, you'll see a few tripods set up if you're early enough.
