the ferry across the lake is actually the most chill way to get from the east side to the west market, only 3 yuan and runs until sunset. just don't expect it to be on time, they leave when they feel like it. ride shares are fine but good luck getting one during the lunch rush around renmin road, the traffic jams are brutal.

honestly the buses are fine for getting between main neighborhoods like Donghu and the old town but they stop running pretty early, like 9pm on some routes. i'd grab a bike rental instead if you're staying central, there's a solid network of docks and it's flat enough to not hate your life. ride shares can be hit or miss outside peak hours, especially if you're trying to go to the temple complex at the edge of town.

ngl the bus system is decent enough during the day but the real hack is the little electric scooters you can rent through the app. they're all over the place near the riverwalk and cost like 2 yuan for 15 minutes. just watch out for the cobblestone streets in the old town, those things rattle your teeth out
