day three's bus from xinyi back to maoming, the last bus is at 6pm but it often fills up by 5:30 on weekdays. if you miss it, the shared van stand outside the xinyi bus station runs until 8pm and costs 40 rmb per person, drops you at maoming east station. less legroom but more flexible timing.

fwiw the pearl market tip is solid but don't go during lunch hour around 12-2pm, half the stalls shut down and the ones that stay open jack up prices on tourists. I grabbed a strand for like 80 RMB around 4pm when they were packing up, same one was 150 earlier in the day. also the vendors there are pretty chill about letting you test the pearls against your teeth to check for real vs fake, just do it subtle like
honestly the gaozhou ancient city tip is solid but most people miss the lychee orchards just outside town. if you go in june or july the fruit is everywhere and some farmers will let u pick for like 10-15 RMB per kilo. way better than anything youd get in a market. also the museum is small but they have this cool old navigation map from the silk road days that's worth a look. takes like an hour tops so pair it with a walk along renmin south road for some street snacks after.
The guide mentions the night market on Guanghua Road but doesn't say that the grilled oysters there are even better than the sit-down restaurants in Bohe Town. I've found the ones at the night market are cheaper too, around 30 RMB for a dozen, and the vendors really load them up with garlic and chili. If you go, bring cash because some of the smaller stalls don't take WeChat Pay.
