honestly the riverside park tip about the kingfishers is spot on, but go even earlier, like 6am, and you'll also catch the old guys doing tai chi under the willow trees with these little radios playing opera. it's a whole vibe. also the waterwheel they restored, it's not just for show, there's a tiny hidden path behind it that leads to a little pavilion where you can sit and watch the mist come off the river, nobody ever goes back there.
for the night market, the stinky tofu at the stall second from the corner, not the first one, that's the tourist trap, the second one is run by a granny who's been there since the 90s and she adds this extra fermented bean curd sauce that changes everything. also if you're gonna bargain for the embroidered pouches, don't start at half, start at a third, they expect it and you'll feel less ripped off when you settle at 40% of the asking price.
nice writeup, really captures the place. if you have a spare morning, skip the museum and just wander the side streets off zhongshan road, there's this old tea house about halfway down the alley opposite the post office, no sign in english, but they do a killer osmanthus tea and the owner will talk your ear off about the silk trade if you let him. also the drum tower climb is better at golden hour, the light hits the rooftops just right and you'll have the place mostly to yourself before the tour buses roll in.
adding to the ceramics thing, if you're clumsy like me the kick wheel is harder than it looks but the guy there is super patient, he'll fix your mess into something decent. also the finished piece ships way faster than they say, mine arrived in two days flat, and they wrapped it like it was made of gold

this is a great breakdown, honestly better than most guides i've seen for jianshe. one thing i'd add: day 1 after the light show, skip the riverside bistro if u want something cheaper and walk ten minutes up binjiang road to the little skewer stalls near the old fish market. they fire up around 8pm and grill everything from lamb to lotus root, costs like 40 yuan for two people and u get to sit on those tiny plastic stools with the locals. way more fun than a sit-down place.
also for day 3, if ur not a hardcore hiker, the lakeside loop at north mountain is the hidden gem. the summit trail is fine but the lake has this wooden boardwalk that goes through a bamboo grove, super peaceful and way less crowded. bring some peanuts for the squirrels there, they're bold and will eat right out of ur hand. and yeah, the south gate market is the move for lunch, grab the sesame cakes from the stall at the far north end, the one with the giant wok, they sell out by 1pm usually.
oh and if u have any evening free, check out the little bookshop on taohua alley that stays open till midnight. they do tea tastings in the back room for 20 yuan and the owner tells great stories about the art district's old factory days. nice way to wind down after all that walking.
The itinerary is solid, especially the timing on Day 1. The light show is worth it, but I'd suggest grabbing a spot near the second bridge, not the first, most tourists crowd the promenade right by the East Gate and miss the better reflections further down.
For Day 2, if you're at the Art District, skip the Craft Beer Kitchen if it's crowded and walk two minutes to the noodle stall at the back of the farmers market. The old lady there makes a mean dan dan mian for 12 yuan, and you'll eat like a local instead of paying fusion prices.
One thing the guide misses: the North Mountain Forest Park gets packed with retirees doing morning tai chi by 09:00. Go early, do the summit trail first while it's cool, then take the lakeside loop on the way down. Also, the bus back can be standing-room only after 15:00, so if you finish before then, you'll have a much more comfortable ride.
Solid plan overall, but don't sleep on the East Gate Tower at night. The daytime view is nice, the light show is fine, but around 21:30 the tower itself gets lit up in a way most tourists never see because they've already left for dinner. Grab a late snack at the noodle place on Zhongshan Road and wander back over, it's a totally different vibe.
