theres a rooftop garden on top of the old textile building on Heping Road that nobody really talks about anymore. you have to go through the side alley and take the service elevator up to the 7th floor, but the view over the old industrial rooftops is pretty wild at golden hour. theres this one corner where a giant rusted gear sits next to a flower bed, makes for a nice contrast shot
if you're into architecture, the bridge on Wenhua Road has these really intricate ironwork patterns on the railings that cast cool shadows on the pavement around 4pm. i've seen photographers camp out there for hours just playing with the light and shadows
if you want something a bit different, try the old canal path behind the grain silos on Jiefang Road. most people walk right past it but there's this one stretch where the water reflects the rusted silos and the sky perfectly, especially on a still morning around 6am. bring a tripod if you can, the slow shutter on the water ripples looks unreal
the morning market on Zhongshan Street is killer for street photography, especially around 7am when the vendors are setting up. the light filters through the awnings and hits the produce stalls just right, gives everything this warm glow. grab a bowl of noodles from the lady at the blue cart while you're there, she's been there 20 years and the broth is legit
