Visiting Gaomi soon, any hidden gems?

I'm heading to Gaomi in about three months and want to get off the usual tourist trail. What are some lesser-known spots or local favorites I should check out? You could spend a morning wandering the old canal district near the south gate bridge. There's a narrow lane called Lianhua Alley where two elderly sisters run a tiny workshop making hand-pulled malt sugar, they've been doing it since the 1960s. They'll let you try a piece warm off the hook for about 3 yuan, and the whole street smells like burnt caramel. The alley itself has these great old brick houses with carved wooden window frames that most people just walk past.

the old railway station area has this tiny tea shop tucked behind a hardware store, owner's been there since the 80s and makes his own fermented snacks. worth wandering around that whole block for the faded propaganda murals on the walls

If you're into traditional crafts, the Gaomi clay figurine workshops are worth a visit. They're scattered around the old town near the north gate, and some families have been making them for generations. You can watch them paint the little birds and animals right there, and a small piece costs about 10 yuan. Also, the morning market at the west end of Chang'an Street has a stall that does a really good jianbing with a crispy edge, better than the ones you'll find in bigger cities.
