Beijing grocery prices 2026: what do locals pay at City Market?
honestly for staples like rice & eggs just hit wumei or jd fresh delivery, prices are fixed & u skip the whole guessing game
wumei eggs are fine but check dates, they stock older cartons cheap and rotate slow, jd fresh is the safer bet
fair but jd fresh eggs are hit or miss on size
Grab the medium carton, big ones are mostly air.
Prices are fixed but jd fresh rice bags shrinkflate, check the kilo weight not just teh price tag.
City Market is the laowai rate, 30 to 50 percent over.
the jingkelong 2 blocks north is half that
yeah that jingkelong is way cheaper but the produce selection is thinner, u wont find the imported stuff. for basic veg & pork its totally fine tho, maybe 4 to 6 kuai a jin for tomatoes
half is a stretch tbh. maybe 20 to 30 percent less on veg, meat gap is smaller. still worth the walk tho
30 to 50 over is about right for imported stuff but the local veg shelf is closer to 20 over, tomatoes run like 8 kuai a jin there vs 5 at a wet market.
best shopping stalls at Market Square Beijing 2026
West row, before 8am, cash only.
east gate has the produce stalls tbh
yeah but the gate side is mostly resellers now, the actual growers sit two rows in behind them
Cash still works best there, agreed. Stall 14 near the north corner does the best tomatoes and she'll knock a few kuai off if you buy a full jin. Clothing bits are better on the outer lane past the fishmongers, less picked over.
Outer lane's picked over by nine, go Thursday.
Stall 14 sells out by 7:30, get there earlier.
sunday's a different crowd entirely, half the stalls shut
just dont roll up at 7:45 expecting change for a 100
vendors start low on change round 9
Get there by 6:30 if you want a parking spot.
