Foundry Brewing Beijing: taproom scam or normal?

Is that a known trick… Stopped by Foundry Brewing while visiting and the guy at the bar said the card machine was down and asked me to pay in cash or WeChat to his personal account instead of the till. Is that a known trick in Beijing taprooms in 2026 or just how small breweries run here? Also the flight prices seemed high for what you get, anyone know if that's standard.

Personal WeChat transfers are normal at small Beijing breweries.

wechat pay to a personal account is normal everywhere here, just screenshot the transfer in case

Image myrjam local ·

Small breweries here often run the till off one phone, so splitting the bill across accounts is just how they cope.

foundry's taproom is on the second floor of that courtyard off xingfucun, easy to miss. the card machine thing is usually real, their terminal is old and drops off the network, but paying to a personal account means no fapiao and no receipt if something goes wrong, so ask for a handwritten one. flights there do run pricey, 90 to 120 for four small pours is about normal for the craft spots in that area, the pints are the better value

Cash only means no fapiao either way.

yeah the terminal drops off constantly, it's on the 2nd floor so the signal up there is patchy. worth noting they'll do a fapiao if u ask, just takes a week & they text u when it's ready. pints over flights every time

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Didn't know about the handwritten receipt thing

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

ask for the receipt before u pay

Pints, and go before 7 or the courtyard seats are gone

Ocean Center Beijing tickets 2026: worth the afternoon?

Book online, walk-ups sell out weekends.

weekday mornings u basically walk straight in

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Image gabrielela… local ·

yeah weekends go fast but honestly 2 hrs is enough, the jellyfish room is the only bit worth lingering in

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down
Image hannah local ·

Fair, the jellyfish room is the one spot people actually slow down in. The tunnel walk and the penguin bit are fine but you're through them in minutes. Skip the gift shop on the way out, it's overpriced.

Same for holidays too, not just weekends.

Image connieneu local ·

online slots vanish fast on holidays too so grab em the moment they open, like a week out

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

agreed, and the gate queue is brutal on rainy days too since everyone pivots indoors. grab the earliest slot you can handle, the 9am entry is dead quiet compared to midday.

rain days also flood the indoor cafes nearby so tack on extra buffer time

arrow_drop_up -3 arrow_drop_down

Two hours is realistic, but go late afternoon since the crowd thins out after 3 and it's a 10 min walk from Tuanjiehu station.
