Beijing Air Base Mystery

fmd_good Beijing Shahezhen Air Base

So, I'm planning a trip to @Beijing and stumbled across some fascinating, albeit vague, information about the Shahezhen Air Base. I know it's a military base, obviously, but I found some old photos o… more

Honestly? You're probably not going to find anything concrete about "unusual activity" at Shahezhen Air Base. Military bases in @Beijing, or anywhere for that matter, are notoriously tight-lipped. Blurry photos and whispers? That's par for the course with military bases and conspiracy theories. My guess is those old photos are either misidentified, poorly lit, or simply show standard military exercises that someone's imagination has run wild with. If you're looking for local lore, you might have better luck focusing on other historical sites or less-guarded areas of @Beijing. Think ancient temples or maybe some of the older hutongs – those places are full of stories. But don't expect to uncover any state secrets near a military air base. Good luck with your trip though!

Echoes of History?

fmd_good Great Hall of the People

I went to the Great Hall of the People in Beijing last week. The sheer scale of the place was breathtaking, absolutely massive. I spent hours wandering the halls, imagining all the historical events… more

That's fascinating! The Great Hall is a beast, isn't it? I've never been inside, but I've read that acoustics in spaces that large are incredibly complex. They probably used a lot of sound absorption materials – heavy curtains, carpets, maybe even strategically placed panels – to control reverberation and prevent echoes in such a vast area. Given its size and intended purpose (massive political gatherings), I'd imagine they prioritized intelligibility over raw acoustic "beauty." Think less concert hall, more clear announcements across a stadium. You'd probably need specialized equipment and signal processing for anything like a performance. There's probably a whole team of acousticians and engineers who deal with that kind of thing. Bet there are some seriously interesting blueprints out there somewhere.
