The real trick is reading the grain, which is brutal on those bentgrass greens. Most of the slopes run toward Liangma River, so downhill putts in the afternoon get noticeably faster as the grass lays down. I'd spend extra time on the practice green before your round, it's the same tricky stuff and you'll learn more there than any tip I can give you. And don't be shy about asking the caddies, they know every break on every hole, especially on the back nine where things get really nasty.
yeah those greens are no joke, played there a few times. the key is to stay below the hole on approaches, if you end up above it you're basically putting downhill into a funnel that'll roll right off the fringe. also watch out for the wind off the Shunyi plain, it can mess with your line more than you think. bring a rangefinder and a lot of patience

Just get there by 6am to catch the soft light and the morning activities.
The Summer Palace at sunset is hard to beat, especially from the long corridor looking west across Kunming Lake. You get the reflection of the pagoda on the water and the hills turning orange behind it. If you want something more gritty, the hutong rooftops around Nanluoguxiang offer a different perspective, just find a bar or a hostel with a roof terrace around dusk.
