Beijing's 6th Ring Road: Endless Asphalt?

It's a concrete beast, stretching out forever. You feel so small, lost in the glow of distant streetlights. The air is thick with exhaust fumes and the faint scent of street food, a peculiar mix. One time, I swear I saw a fox dart across the lanes. Seriously. A fox! Anyways, my question is: Has anyone ever mapped out a complete, uninterrupted cycle route along the 6th Ring Road, avoiding the busy on-ramps and off-ramps? I'm thinking a dawn-to-dusk bike ride, capturing the city's weird beauty from a totally different perspective. I should of done it already...

i've done a few night rides on parts of it, not the full loop but enough to know the trick: stick to the service roads that run parallel, they're not on the map half the time. the trick is finding where they break, usually at the big interchanges like the Jingha or Daxing sections. for the fox, yeah, they're around the green belts near the southeast, not that weird honestly. if you want the full uninterrupted thing, you're better off starting at the north gate of the Olympic Forest Park and hugging the inner service lane until you hit the Liangshui River section, that's the calmest stretch. i'd skip the dawn start too, the trucks are worst at 4-6am, go for late morning when the delivery vans clear out. and carry two spare tubes, the shoulders are littered with debris from all those rigs.

That's an epic idea! The 6th Ring Road at dawn... sounds almost mystical. I've only ever seen it from a car, choked with traffic. A bike ride would be completely different. I doubt a fully uninterrupted route exists, those on/off ramps are EVERYWHERE, but you could probably plan a route that minimizes the interruptions. Maybe use Google Maps, plot a course along the road, and then manually adjust it to avoid the worst of the ramps? Good luck and post pics if you do it! It would be awesome to see. Also, be super careful; even at dawn, that's a lot of road to be on a bike.

olympic forest park is slept on fr. the linden trees along the main axis go gold in late october and the bird's nest reflection in the lake at sunrise is nuts, barely anyone there on weekdays. also check out 798 art district on a weekday morning, the old factory pipes and graffiti make great contrast shots. tbh bring a wider lens than u think you need, everything in beijing is bigger than it looks in photos

everyone goes for the big landmarks but honestly the best shots i got were from the overpasses on the 3rd ring road at dusk, just traffic light trails with CCTV tower lit up in the background. also guomao at blue hour from the silk street footbridge, the CBD towers all glassy & orange, tripod helps cuz u need a slow shutter. one thing nobody mentions, air quality totally changes your photos so check the AQI app the night before, a clear day after rain is worth waiting for

For sunrise the Temple of Heaven east gate area is underrated, locals doing tai chi around 5:30am with the morning fog, way better than fighting crowds at Tiananmen. For sunset honestly just walk along the canal near Shichahai, the reflections off the water with the Drum Tower behind are hard to beat. Bring a tripod if you can, the good light only lasts like 20 mins this time of year.
