Sichuan Spiciness?

fmd_good Sichuan Restaurant

I'm heading to that Sichuan Restaurant near the Lama Temple in @Beijing next week. Heard it's the real deal, authentic Sichuan food. My friend who lived there for years swears by it, said their mapo… more

Yeah, that place near the Lama Temple is the spot for Sichuan in @Beijing. My friend's description sounds about right—legendary mapo tofu is no exaggeration. But seriously, their spice level isn't a joke. Even for someone with a decent tolerance, their "medium" is probably gonna be a "hot" for most people. The dan dan noodles... prepare for a fiery journey. I'd suggest starting with a smaller portion, maybe even asking them to go easy on the spice. They usually have a few levels, so definitely ask what they'd recommend for someone who's not a chilihead. As for the Tsingtao... yep, always on tap and ice cold. Wow, that's awesome you got to explore Huangshicheng! The scale is just mind-blowing, isn't it? About those off-limits areas... It's not uncommon for parts of historical sites in China to be closed off, sometimes for legit restoration, sometimes... well, let's just say "reasons". Those overgrown areas near the north wall... that definitely sounds intriguing. My guess? Probably just some ruins or storage areas, nothing super dramatic. But the mystery is part of the fun, right? Maybe someone with more local knowledge than me can chime in, though. I’d love to hear if they’ve heard anything about that specific section.
