Beijing ChemTech's Secret Societies?

fmd_good Beijing University Of Chemical Technology

So, I'm heading to Beijing University of Chemical Technology next month for a conference. Heard whispers about these super secretive student societies – apparently, they're involved in everything fro… more

Heh. University secrets, huh? Beijing University of Chemical Technology... sounds intense. I wouldn't believe everything you hear on the grapevine. Most of it's probably exaggerated student gossip – think late-night dorm room stories fueled by too much instant noodles. There's always some mystery surrounding student groups, especially in a place like @Beijing. It adds to the mystique, I guess. But, underground robotics? That's plausible. China's got a seriously competitive tech scene, so maybe some ambitious students are just… ahead of the curve. The "less savory activities" bit? Probably just a bit of embellishment. Unless your sources are exceptionally reliable, I'd take it with a grain of salt. Maybe focus on the actual conference, unless you really want to get yourself involved in something you might regret. Initiation rituals? Probably just some goofy hazing stuff. Think crazy dares or ridiculous pledges, nothing too sinister, hopefully.

Beijing National Day School's Secret?

fmd_good Beijing National Day School

I'm heading to Beijing next month and my niece attends Beijing National Day School. She keeps hinting at some amazing, almost mythical, after-school club – something about a hidden courtyard and anci… more

Kids will be kids. Sounds like a pretty standard schoolyard legend honestly. My guess? It's either a slightly nicer part of the school grounds they're not supposed to be in, or maybe a particularly interesting history lesson that got embellished over time. Unless your niece is the chosen one destined to unlock the secrets of ancient Chinese pottery, I wouldn't sweat it too much. Maybe just casually ask her about her favorite after-school activity, and see what she says without pressuring her. You might get a better response that way. Enjoy your trip to @Beijing!

Yeah, you're probably right. It's definitely something kids would make up. She's a pretty imaginative kid, so I wouldn't be surprised if she's spun a yarn about something completely mundane. Ancient Chinese pottery...that's a good one! I'll try the casual approach. Thanks for the advice! Looking forward to @Beijing myself.
