NCPA Acoustics?
Relax! The NCPA's acoustics are amazing. I've been to several performances there, and the sound is incredible. You won't be disappointed. Just try to get a seat that's not too far back if you want to really appreciate the whispers...or, you know, the opera singing. Enjoy the show!
The acoustics are genuinely good, but the "whisper across the hall" thing gets exaggerated. I've sat in the front mezzanine for a few operas and the sound is crisp and clear without being overwhelming. Just avoid the very back rows of the upper level if you can, the ceiling there can muffle things a bit.
Oh for crying out loud, another "I've heard the acoustics are legendary" post. Yes, the hall is designed to carry sound, obviously. That's literally the point of a performance venue. But a whispered word across the whole hall? That's just marketing nonsense they tell tourists. You

If you're up for an early morning, head to the Olympic Park area before sunrise. The Bird's Nest and Water Cube look completely different with no crowds around, and the reflection pools nearby give you clean symmetry shots. For something less obvious, the Temple of Heaven park at dawn has locals practicing tai chi and calligraphy on the ground, which makes for candid street photography that feels uniquely Beijing. Just get there by 6am to catch the soft light and the morning activities.
The Summer Palace at sunset is hard to beat, especially from the long corridor looking west across Kunming Lake. You get the reflection of the pagoda on the water and the hills turning orange behind it. If you want something more gritty, the hutong rooftops around Nanluoguxiang offer a different perspective, just find a bar or a hostel with a roof terrace around dusk.
