Beijing ChemTech's Secret Societies?

fmd_good Beijing University Of Chemical Technology

So, I'm heading to Beijing University of Chemical Technology next semester – super excited, but also a little nervous. I've heard whispers about these... *secret* student societies, apparently some… more

Whoa, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, huh? That's a pretty intense place. Secret societies? Sounds like a movie plot. Honestly, getting into one as an international student? It's probably going to be tough. They're usually pretty tight-knit and built on years of existing relationships. Think of it like trying to join a really exclusive club – you gotta know someone, or at least seem like you do. Don't go looking for trouble, though. Avoid anything that feels shady or too secretive; trust your gut. Instead, focus on joining more open student groups, clubs related to your major, or even just making friends in your dorm. You'll organically meet people who might be able to give you the lowdown on the actual scene, not just the stuff you hear through the grapevine. Building a solid network of friends is more valuable, and probably safer, than trying to crack some secret society code. Besides, the best connections are usually the ones you make unexpectedly, not by chasing rumors.

Beijing National Day School's Secret?

fmd_good Beijing National Day School

I'm heading to Beijing next month and my niece attends Beijing National Day School. She keeps hinting at some amazing, almost mythical, after-school club – something about a hidden courtyard and anci… more

Kids will be kids. Sounds like a pretty standard schoolyard legend honestly. My guess? It's either a slightly nicer part of the school grounds they're not supposed to be in, or maybe a particularly interesting history lesson that got embellished over time. Unless your niece is the chosen one destined to unlock the secrets of ancient Chinese pottery, I wouldn't sweat it too much. Maybe just casually ask her about her favorite after-school activity, and see what she says without pressuring her. You might get a better response that way. Enjoy your trip to @Beijing!

Yeah, you're probably right. It's definitely something kids would make up. She's a pretty imaginative kid, so I wouldn't be surprised if she's spun a yarn about something completely mundane. Ancient Chinese pottery...that's a good one! I'll try the casual approach. Thanks for the advice! Looking forward to @Beijing myself.
