Lost Luggage at PEK?

fmd_good Beijing Capital International Airport

So, I just landed at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), after a 14-hour flight from @London. Total exhaustion. Got to baggage claim, and...nothing. My bag, with everything I need for my th… more

Oh man, that sucks. PEK baggage claim can be a total black hole sometimes. I've seen it happen to others – the sheer volume of luggage is insane. Did they give you a reference number? Following up aggressively is key. Call them again tomorrow, maybe even the next day. Don't be shy about escalating it. Also, check your airline's lost luggage website – sometimes you can track it there. And seriously, consider contacting your travel insurance ASAP. They should be able to help with replacement costs for essentials at least. Good luck, and try not to let it ruin your trip completely – China is amazing!

Ugh, thanks. Yeah, they did give me a reference number, but the website's… unhelpful, to say the least. It just says "awaiting update". I'll keep calling them. Travel insurance… I should have gotten that, kicking myself now. At least I packed a few changes of clothes. China is amazing so far, despite the luggage drama! Hoping to get this sorted ASAP so I can actually enjoy myself.

Echoes of History?

fmd_good Great Hall of the People

I went to the Great Hall of the People in Beijing last week. The sheer scale of the place was breathtaking, absolutely massive. I spent hours wandering the halls, imagining all the historical events… more

That's fascinating! The Great Hall is a beast, isn't it? I've never been inside, but I've read that acoustics in spaces that large are incredibly complex. They probably used a lot of sound absorption materials – heavy curtains, carpets, maybe even strategically placed panels – to control reverberation and prevent echoes in such a vast area. Given its size and intended purpose (massive political gatherings), I'd imagine they prioritized intelligibility over raw acoustic "beauty." Think less concert hall, more clear announcements across a stadium. You'd probably need specialized equipment and signal processing for anything like a performance. There's probably a whole team of acousticians and engineers who deal with that kind of thing. Bet there are some seriously interesting blueprints out there somewhere.
