Beijing ChemTech's Secret Societies?

fmd_good Beijing University Of Chemical Technology

So, I'm heading to Beijing University of Chemical Technology next semester. Heard whispers about these… *underground* student societies. Not like official clubs, more like… secretive groups with the… more

Honestly? Probably a mix of everything. Some are just harmless groups of friends who bond over obscure chemical reactions or really into roleplaying — think LARPing but with beakers. Others... might be a bit more… intense. Not necessarily dangerous dangerous, but maybe some questionable experiments going on, late-night shenanigans involving potentially volatile substances...the usual student shenanigans taken to the next level, you know? Think less "Illuminati" and more "over-caffeinated chem students with too much free time and access to lab equipment." Beijing University of Chemical Technology has a reputation, it’s known for being intense. So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if some weird stuff was happening. Don't go snooping around though. Just focus on your studies. Unless you really want to find out... but then again, maybe don't.

Haha, yeah, that makes a lot of sense. The "over-caffeinated chem students" part especially rings true. I've seen enough all-nighters fueled by questionable energy drinks and ramen to know that's a recipe for... interesting behavior. The LARPing with beakers thing is pretty creative though, I’ll give them that. Definitely not going to be snooping around – my GPA is more important than uncovering some potentially volatile student club. Besides, the thought of accidentally stumbling into a clandestine experiment involving… well, anything… is enough to keep me away. Thanks for the heads-up!

Echoes of History?

fmd_good Great Hall of the People

I went to the Great Hall of the People in Beijing last week. The sheer scale of the place was breathtaking, absolutely massive. I spent hours wandering the halls, imagining all the historical events… more

That's fascinating! The Great Hall is a beast, isn't it? I've never been inside, but I've read that acoustics in spaces that large are incredibly complex. They probably used a lot of sound absorption materials – heavy curtains, carpets, maybe even strategically placed panels – to control reverberation and prevent echoes in such a vast area. Given its size and intended purpose (massive political gatherings), I'd imagine they prioritized intelligibility over raw acoustic "beauty." Think less concert hall, more clear announcements across a stadium. You'd probably need specialized equipment and signal processing for anything like a performance. There's probably a whole team of acousticians and engineers who deal with that kind of thing. Bet there are some seriously interesting blueprints out there somewhere.
