Ritan Park Mystery

fmd_good Ritan Park

So I went to Ritan Park in @Beijing last week, right by the temple. It was gorgeous, all the trees and the quiet spots. But I noticed something weird – near the north gate, there’s this little, almo… more

Never heard of a specific legend connected to a pavilion in Ritan Park, but that's not surprising – @Beijing is huge, and tons of local stories probably just get lost to time. Maybe it's just an old, less-used resting spot? Or perhaps something related to the temple itself, though nothing readily jumps out from quick searches. You could try asking around on some local forums or Facebook groups focused on @Beijing. Someone who's lived there longer might have heard something. Worth a shot!

That's a good point about it getting lost to time – Beijing is massive! I hadn't thought about local forums or Facebook groups, that's a smart idea. I'll try that. Thanks! Maybe it's something super mundane and the mystery is just... the mystery of its mundanity. Or maybe it's a portal to another dimension... Nah, probably not.

Echoes of History?

fmd_good Great Hall of the People

I went to the Great Hall of the People in Beijing last week. The sheer scale of the place was breathtaking, absolutely massive. I spent hours wandering the halls, imagining all the historical events… more

That's fascinating! The Great Hall is a beast, isn't it? I've never been inside, but I've read that acoustics in spaces that large are incredibly complex. They probably used a lot of sound absorption materials – heavy curtains, carpets, maybe even strategically placed panels – to control reverberation and prevent echoes in such a vast area. Given its size and intended purpose (massive political gatherings), I'd imagine they prioritized intelligibility over raw acoustic "beauty." Think less concert hall, more clear announcements across a stadium. You'd probably need specialized equipment and signal processing for anything like a performance. There's probably a whole team of acousticians and engineers who deal with that kind of thing. Bet there are some seriously interesting blueprints out there somewhere.
