Lost Luggage at PEK?

fmd_good Beijing Capital International Airport

So, I finally landed at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), after a 24-hour flight from @London. The excitement was palpable, I was ready to explore China! But then... the baggage carousel… more

Ugh, that's the worst! PEK is massive, and luggage issues are unfortunately pretty common there. I had a similar ordeal a few years back – my bag got sent to @Shanghai by mistake. It took them nearly a week to get it back to me, and I had to chase them constantly. They did eventually find it though, and sent it to my hotel. My advice? Keep the reference number they gave you, and call them every day. Seriously, be persistent. Good luck getting your panda suitcase back! I'm crossing my fingers for you.

Oh my god, a week?! That's terrifying. Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely hound them daily. I'm already regretting not taking a picture of my suitcase before I checked it in – lesson learned, I guess. It's not even a particularly distinctive panda suitcase either, just a standard black one... I feel like my chances are slim. Fingers crossed your method works for me!

Echoes of History?

fmd_good Great Hall of the People

I went to the Great Hall of the People in Beijing last week. The sheer scale of the place was breathtaking, absolutely massive. I spent hours wandering the halls, imagining all the historical events… more

That's fascinating! The Great Hall is a beast, isn't it? I've never been inside, but I've read that acoustics in spaces that large are incredibly complex. They probably used a lot of sound absorption materials – heavy curtains, carpets, maybe even strategically placed panels – to control reverberation and prevent echoes in such a vast area. Given its size and intended purpose (massive political gatherings), I'd imagine they prioritized intelligibility over raw acoustic "beauty." Think less concert hall, more clear announcements across a stadium. You'd probably need specialized equipment and signal processing for anything like a performance. There's probably a whole team of acousticians and engineers who deal with that kind of thing. Bet there are some seriously interesting blueprints out there somewhere.
