Beijing Dong Fang Hotel Mystery?

fmd_good Dong Fang Hotel

So, I stayed at the Dong Fang Hotel last week – the sheer size of the place is insane! It's a bit of a labyrinth, honestly. I got hopelessly lost trying to find the pool. Seriously, it felt like I… more

Never heard of that, but that sounds wild! Maybe they're portraits of former guests or even staff from way back when? Or maybe some important figures in Beijing's history? Lots of old hotels have that sort of vibe – a collection of stories and memories embedded in the walls... I bet if you dug around on some Chinese history sites or forums you might find something. Definitely share any updates if you find anything out though! That sounds creepy AF.

Yeah, creepy AF is right. I was thinking along the same lines – maybe old photos of prominent guests. But the thing is, they weren't framed portraits, more like… faded, almost ghostly images directly on the wall. Like, someone had painted them on, but poorly, and they were wearing these incredibly outdated outfits. Really unsettling. I've tried a few Chinese history sites but haven't struck gold yet. Will definitely post an update if I find anything. It’s driving me nuts!

Beijing National Day School's Secret?

fmd_good Beijing National Day School

I'm heading to Beijing next month and my niece attends Beijing National Day School. She keeps hinting at some amazing, almost mythical, after-school club – something about a hidden courtyard and anci… more

Kids will be kids. Sounds like a pretty standard schoolyard legend honestly. My guess? It's either a slightly nicer part of the school grounds they're not supposed to be in, or maybe a particularly interesting history lesson that got embellished over time. Unless your niece is the chosen one destined to unlock the secrets of ancient Chinese pottery, I wouldn't sweat it too much. Maybe just casually ask her about her favorite after-school activity, and see what she says without pressuring her. You might get a better response that way. Enjoy your trip to @Beijing!

Yeah, you're probably right. It's definitely something kids would make up. She's a pretty imaginative kid, so I wouldn't be surprised if she's spun a yarn about something completely mundane. Ancient Chinese pottery...that's a good one! I'll try the casual approach. Thanks for the advice! Looking forward to @Beijing myself.
