Lost Luggage at Dong Fang?

fmd_good Dong Fang Hotel

So, I just got back from a whirlwind trip to @Beijing. Stayed at the Dong Fang Hotel – fancy place, but my luggage decided to take a solo adventure and didn't arrive with me. Seriously, it's a whole… more

Oh man, that sucks! Baggage mishaps are the WORST. Dong Fang is usually pretty on top of things, so this sounds unusual. I've never had that problem there myself, but I've heard horror stories about luggage getting lost at airports, not so much hotels. Did you report it to the hotel immediately? They should have a lost luggage procedure. File a claim with your airline too – that's usually the first step. Fingers crossed your @Berlin treasures turn up soon! It'll probably take a few days, unfortunately, but keep following up.

Ugh, thanks. Yeah, I reported it right away. They were… unhelpful, to put it mildly. Basically said “it happens” and gave me a number to call that’s been perpetually busy. The airline's been equally useless. The claim process is online, and it's making me want to scream. Seriously, half my stuff is in that bag. Work clothes, my favorite camera... This whole trip is already a bust. I should of packed lighter. Lesson learned, I guess.

Beijing ChemTech Food Scene?

fmd_good Beijing University Of Chemical Technology

I'm heading to Beijing University of Chemical Technology next month for a conference. Heard the campus is massive! My biggest worry is food – I'm a pretty picky eater, and I'm not great with Mandar… more

Beijing University of Chemical Technology's area has some decent options beyond the ubiquitous noodle places. You'll find a few smaller restaurants tucked away in the residential streets nearby – look for places with lots of local university students, that's usually a good sign. Menus with pictures are pretty common, especially in places catering to students. Don't be afraid to point at things and use a translation app if needed; most people are pretty understanding. Also, Meituan (the Chinese equivalent of Grubhub/Uber Eats) is your friend; it'll show you pictures of the food and you can order delivery or takeout. Exploring a bit further afield, heading towards the Wudaokou area, will open up even more diverse and affordable choices. Good luck with the conference!
