Three hours is probably sufficient, unless your airline is notoriously slow or you have a mountain of luggage. Four hours is definitely overkill unless you're flying during peak season or a major holiday. The security lines can be long, especially during rush hour, but it's rarely four hours long. I've gone through there several times and never waited more than an hour and a half, even with a fairly hefty backpack. Just get there around 4 AM, grab some coffee, and try to relax. Good luck!
