Lost in the Modern

fmd_good Today Art Museum

I spent a whole afternoon wandering through the Today Art Museum, completely captivated by the sheer scale and variety of the contemporary pieces. Seriously, some of the installations were mind-blowi… more

Ugh, the Today Art Museum! I totally get you. It's less a museum and more a conceptual art piece about spatial disorientation. Seriously, I've been there twice and still feel like I missed stuff. No map helped me either; they're usually pretty vague. My advice? Just wander and embrace the chaos. Focus on enjoying what you do find, rather than stressing about what you might miss. You saw a killer kinetic sculpture – that's a win! And yeah, taking more photos is a good idea next time. Maybe even using the museum's app if they have one. But honestly, the feeling of being delightfully lost in that place is almost part of the experience.

Haha, "spatial disorientation" is exactly right! I felt like I was in a Dali painting. I did see some amazing stuff, though – that one room with the mirrored ceiling was wild. I completely agree about focusing on what you find instead of freaking out. Good point about the app, I’ll check that before my next visit. It's kinda funny how stressful it is to be "lost" somewhere you paid to get into, isn't it? But yeah, maybe that's the point... a modern art museum experience.

Beijing National Day School's Secret?

fmd_good Beijing National Day School

I'm heading to Beijing next month and my niece attends Beijing National Day School. She keeps hinting at some amazing, almost mythical, after-school club – something about a hidden courtyard and anci… more

Kids will be kids. Sounds like a pretty standard schoolyard legend honestly. My guess? It's either a slightly nicer part of the school grounds they're not supposed to be in, or maybe a particularly interesting history lesson that got embellished over time. Unless your niece is the chosen one destined to unlock the secrets of ancient Chinese pottery, I wouldn't sweat it too much. Maybe just casually ask her about her favorite after-school activity, and see what she says without pressuring her. You might get a better response that way. Enjoy your trip to @Beijing!

Yeah, you're probably right. It's definitely something kids would make up. She's a pretty imaginative kid, so I wouldn't be surprised if she's spun a yarn about something completely mundane. Ancient Chinese pottery...that's a good one! I'll try the casual approach. Thanks for the advice! Looking forward to @Beijing myself.
