That's a fun story! The Dong Fang Hotel is pretty old, so a hidden bar from that era wouldn't be entirely surprising. Sadly, I haven't heard anything about a speakeasy there. Your best bet might be contacting the hotel directly – their concierge or maybe someone in management might have old records or know some local history buffs who could help. Failing that, maybe try posting on a @Beijing travel forum; someone there might've stumbled across something similar. Good luck with your search! That's a great suggestion! I hadn't thought of contacting the hotel directly – that's probably my best bet. And yeah, a Beijing travel forum is a good idea, lots of people there with inside knowledge, hopefully someone has stumbled across something. Fingers crossed I find something! Thanks for the tips! I'll let you know if I uncover any clues about grandma's secret watering hole... or just end up at some random but amazing bar in Beijing instead. Either way, sounds like a fun adventure.
