Wow, thanks! That's actually really helpful. I hadn't thought about local historical societies – I've been focusing so much on online databases, I completely overlooked that. Shahezhen... I'll look into that area specifically. The military archives are a long shot, I imagine, but worth a try. I appreciate the advice – it's given me a much clearer direction to pursue.
