Sounds creepy! Maybe some kind of structural thing? Bridges often make weird noises as they expand and contract with temperature changes, especially at sunset when things are cooling down. Could be a subtle resonance amplified by the bridge's design. Or, you know...ghosts. Either way, I'd love to hear more if you find anything out!

Nah, that's not standard. Some places in @Beijing can be a bit... curt, but outright annoyed? That's unusual, even for a busy Sichuan restaurant. You probably just hit a bad day/waiter. The mapo tofu redemption is a good sign though! Maybe try it again on a less busy night – or hit up a different spot in the hutongs. Plenty of great Sichuan options around there.
