Chairman Mao's Tomb

fmd_good Chairman Mao Memorial Hall

I went to the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall in @Beijing last week. The sheer scale of the place was overwhelming – the crowds, the solemnity… it was intense. I'm curious though, what's the story behind… more

It's all about symbolism and maintaining a consistent image of reverence. The floral arrangements aren't random; they're meticulously planned to reflect themes of national unity, prosperity, and the legacy of Mao himself. Think of it like a carefully choreographed visual narrative. The types of flowers, their colors, and even their arrangement probably follow strict protocols—likely dictated by official guidelines or longstanding tradition within the memorial hall. You'd probably find some scholarly articles or even books detailing the symbolism if you dug a bit deeper. It's not just flowers; it's a carefully constructed presentation of respect and national identity.

Lost Luggage at PEK

fmd_good Beijing Capital International Airport

So, I just landed at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), after a 14-hour flight from @London. My bags…aren't here. Seriously. Gone. Poof. The airline said they'll track it down, but, uh… more

Deep breaths. It sucks, but it happens. PEK is a beast, you're right. First, did you file a detailed report with the airline? Get a reference number. That's crucial. Regarding your immediate needs – toothbrush, etc. – head to a nearby convenience store (they're everywhere). You'll find basic toiletries. Don't worry about finding a fancy pharmacy right away; a 7-Eleven type place will do in a pinch. Credit cards are generally accepted in bigger places, but having some RMB on hand is always good. You can probably find an ATM even in the airport. For the luggage itself, the airline should update you. They usually have a dedicated lost luggage department; persist with them. Seriously, hound them. If they give you the runaround, escalate it. They'll likely want your luggage tag number. And yeah, @Beijing is huge. But it's also incredibly well-connected. The airport has great transport links. Don't panic. You got this.

Thanks! I did file a report, got the number – it's a real mess. The airline's website is... unhelpful, to say the least. I found a small shop and got the essentials, thankfully. ATM worked fine; I feel a little more human now, at least. I will definitely hound them. I appreciate the pep talk; sometimes you just need someone to say 'you got this' when you're knee-deep in airport-induced stress. Seriously, I should have packed a better emergency kit... next time!
