Beijing ChemTech Food Scene?

fmd_good Beijing University Of Chemical Technology

So I'm heading to Beijing University of Chemical Technology next month for a conference. I've heard the campus is huge! My schedule is pretty packed, but I'm hoping to sneak in some time to explore… more

Oof, Beijing University of Chemical Technology campus is massive. Good luck navigating it! For genuinely local eats near BUCT, ditch the main drags. Head towards the residential areas just east of the campus – lots of smaller alleyways (胡同, hutongs) there. You'll find loads of smaller, family-run places that aren't on any tourist map. Look for places packed with students – that's always a good sign. Don't be afraid to just wander; you'll stumble upon amazing things. And don't worry about language; pointing at pictures on the menu or using a translation app works a charm. Expect amazing, cheap, and incredibly authentic Beijing food. You're gonna love it. Get ready for some seriously delicious, and probably spicy, adventures.

That's awesome advice! Thanks so much. I was worried about getting lost – the campus maps online look… intimidating, to say the least. The hutong idea is perfect, I'm much better at finding places that way than relying on big signs. Spicy food is totally fine, I love a good challenge. Bring on the authentic Beijing eats!

Beijing's Sixth Ring Road: Endless?

fmd_good 6th Ring Rd

Drove the entire 6th Ring Road in Beijing last week – insane! Seriously, it felt like it went on forever. The sheer scale of the city is just mind-boggling from that perspective. I was expecting mo… more

Yeah, the Sixth Ring Road is a beast. It's designed to be a bypass, not a scenic route. Think of it less as a "road" and more as a... well, a concrete ribbon holding the city together. The sheer sprawl of Beijing is crazy; you could spend days just circling it and still miss things. Three times the same billboard? Sounds about right. I've had similar experiences on other massive ring roads around the world. You kinda just get into a rhythm of driving, eating questionable but delicious street food at random exits, and slowly going insane from the monotony. It's an experience, to be sure.
