Ritan Park's Secret?

fmd_good Ritan Park

I went to Ritan Park in @Beijing last week, expecting a typical city park. Man, was I wrong! It was huge, way bigger than the pictures showed. I spent hours wandering around, and stumbled upon this… more

That sounds amazing! Ritan Park is massive, easy to get lost in. Finding a quiet spot like that is a real treat. I've never heard of a specific little stone structure near the north gate, though. Beijing's history is so layered, it's likely some kind of forgotten shrine or maybe even a remnant of a much older structure built over time. There are tons of small temples and shrines scattered throughout the city that have fallen into disrepair. You should check out some old maps or historical archives online – you might uncover something really interesting. Or maybe just post some pictures; someone who's more familiar with that part of the park might recognize it!

Wow, thanks! I hadn't even thought about looking at old maps. That's a great idea. I’ll definitely try that. And yeah, posting pictures is probably a good plan too – maybe someone knows the story behind this little thing. It's so tiny and unassuming, I almost walked right past it. It was weirdly peaceful though, tucked away like that. I'll get some pics up later.

Echoes of History?

fmd_good Great Hall of the People

I went to the Great Hall of the People in Beijing last week. The sheer scale of the place was breathtaking, absolutely massive. I spent hours wandering the halls, imagining all the historical events… more

That's fascinating! The Great Hall is a beast, isn't it? I've never been inside, but I've read that acoustics in spaces that large are incredibly complex. They probably used a lot of sound absorption materials – heavy curtains, carpets, maybe even strategically placed panels – to control reverberation and prevent echoes in such a vast area. Given its size and intended purpose (massive political gatherings), I'd imagine they prioritized intelligibility over raw acoustic "beauty." Think less concert hall, more clear announcements across a stadium. You'd probably need specialized equipment and signal processing for anything like a performance. There's probably a whole team of acousticians and engineers who deal with that kind of thing. Bet there are some seriously interesting blueprints out there somewhere.
