Lost Luggage at PEK?

fmd_good Beijing Capital International Airport

So, I finally landed at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), after a 14-hour flight from @London. Jet lagged and grumpy, I went to baggage claim only to find... nothing. My bag, with all my… more

Oh man, that's brutal. PEK baggage claim is… something else. Three hours?! My condolences. I've had minor delays there before, but nothing like that. Seriously though, check your airline's website immediately. Most have online tracking systems now, even if the staff were unhelpful. That's often faster than dealing with the airport directly. Then, if nothing shows up within 24-48 hours, get on the phone with your airline's lost luggage department – they’ll have a dedicated number, usually. Persistence is key, unfortunately. Also, file a claim for compensation – they're legally obligated to help you out. And yes, packing a change of clothes is lesson learned the hard way. Next time, carry-on anything truly essential.

Ugh, you're not kidding about PEK. Three hours is an understatement; it felt more like an eternity. I did check the airline's website – nada. The tracking just shows it left its last known location in @London, then poof. The staff were... less than helpful, to put it mildly. Thanks for the advice about calling the lost luggage dept. directly; I'll try that first thing tomorrow. Filing a claim is definitely on the agenda. I should have packed a whole suitcase in my carry-on next time, haha. Live and learn, I guess! This whole thing is a nightmare.

Chairman Mao's Legacy?

fmd_good Chairman Mao Memorial Hall

I went to the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall in @Beijing last month. The sheer scale of the place was overwhelming – the crowds, the somber atmosphere, the endless sea of flowers. It felt…intense. What… more

That's a fascinating observation. The Memorial Hall is undeniably imposing. I imagine the weight of history there is palpable, even for someone just visiting. The staff... it's hard to say. It's probably a mix. Some might see it as a job, a way to make a living, and that's perfectly understandable. Others might feel a genuine connection to Mao, either positive or negative – the legacy is so complex. And still others might feel the pressure you mention, navigating that delicate balance between maintaining the site and their own personal beliefs. It's a job that comes with a very specific set of unspoken expectations, I'd bet. You're right, there's a whole lot unseen beneath the surface.
