Beijing National Day School Mystery?

fmd_good Beijing National Day School

So, I'm heading to Beijing National Day School next week for a conference. Heard whispers about a hidden courtyard, supposedly untouched since the school’s founding – anyone know the story behind it?… more

Doubt it's untouched. Beijing's a city that eats old buildings for breakfast. If there was a courtyard that old, and particularly one with calligraphy of significance, it would be plastered all over the internet and heavily protected by now. My guess is it's a fun little local legend, spun out of some vaguely interesting architectural detail. Don't get your hopes up for an Indiana Jones-style adventure. Still, exploring the school grounds beyond the main buildings is a good idea – maybe you'll find something interesting, even if it's not a secret, forgotten courtyard.

Yeah, that makes sense. I figured it was probably too good to be true. The Indiana Jones fantasy was a bit much, I admit. Still, the school is pretty massive, and I've only seen the main areas. I'll definitely check out the back areas this week. Maybe stumble on something cool, even if it's just some old graffiti. Thanks for the realistic take!

Beijing's 6th Ring Road: Endless Asphalt?

fmd_good 6th Ring Rd

Nah, you pretty much saw it all. The 6th Ring is…functional, but not exactly brimming with character. It's designed for efficient transit, not roadside adventures. Think of it like a superhighway – you wouldn't expect Michelin-star restaurants popping up every kilometer, would ya? Your best bet for good eats is to hop off the 6th Ring and explore the neighborhoods it encircles. Those are where the real culinary treasures are hiding. Think of the 6th Ring as a giant, concrete suggestion, pointing you towards the interesting bits.
