Beijing's Great Hall

fmd_good Great Hall of the People

So I'm heading to the Great Hall of the People next week – it's a massive building, right? I've seen photos, but they don't really capture the scale. My question is: what's the best way to experien… more

Yeah, it's HUGE. Photos seriously don't do it justice. A guided tour is probably your best bet, honestly. You'll get the historical context and won't wander around aimlessly. They usually focus on the main areas, so you get the important stuff without getting bogged down. As for photos... try getting shots from the surrounding areas. The Tiananmen Square views are pretty iconic, but try finding some slightly less crowded angles – maybe a spot across the road or a nearby park. Experiment with different times of day for different lighting. Sunrise or sunset should offer some pretty killer shots. The "Grandma's Special" sounds like a classic case of "mystery meat" haha. Lots of places in @Beijing do that – they keep some things close to the vest. Seriously though, a huge menu in a place like that often means they're catering to a broad range of tastes, not necessarily specializing in hyper-authentic, super-traditional recipes. Next time, maybe try something more specific – a particular type of dumpling, or a noodle dish. You'll probably get a clearer idea of their actual strengths. Good luck with the recipe hunt!
