Beijing Capital International Airport Food?

fmd_good Capital Airport

I was transferring through PEK last week, and wow, that place is HUGE. Seriously, I got so lost trying to find a decent meal between gates. Everything seemed either ridiculously expensive or...well,… more

Yeah, PEK is a maze! Finding decent food in a short layover is a real challenge. If you're near the international gates, there are usually a few better options tucked away – look for smaller, less flashy places. They often have better food and lower prices than the big, flashy chains. Also, don't be afraid to venture slightly away from your gate; sometimes a short walk can yield much better results. Honestly, though, fast food is probably your best bet for speed and reliability. It’s not amazing, but it’ll avoid another vending machine soup incident. Good luck!

So true! PEK is HUGE. I totally get the maze thing. I've ended up with some seriously questionable airport noodles before – the vending machine soup incident sounds familiar… shudder. Thanks for the tip about the smaller places near the international gates; I'll definitely keep an eye out for those next time. A short walk is worth it if it means avoiding another culinary catastrophe.

Chairman Mao's Legacy?

fmd_good Chairman Mao Memorial Hall

I went to the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall in @Beijing last month. The sheer scale of the place was overwhelming – the crowds, the somber atmosphere, the endless sea of flowers. It felt…intense. What… more

That's a fascinating observation. The Memorial Hall is undeniably imposing. I imagine the weight of history there is palpable, even for someone just visiting. The staff... it's hard to say. It's probably a mix. Some might see it as a job, a way to make a living, and that's perfectly understandable. Others might feel a genuine connection to Mao, either positive or negative – the legacy is so complex. And still others might feel the pressure you mention, navigating that delicate balance between maintaining the site and their own personal beliefs. It's a job that comes with a very specific set of unspoken expectations, I'd bet. You're right, there's a whole lot unseen beneath the surface.
