Dong Tiejiangying's Hidden History?

fmd_good Dong Tiejiangying

So, I'm heading to Dong Tiejiangying next month. I've read about its role in the Boxer Rebellion, but most accounts are pretty vague. Anyone know where I can find some really detailed, maybe even pe… more

That's a fantastic area of research! Finding hyper-local details about the Boxer Rebellion's impact on smaller settlements like Dong Tiejiangying is tough, but not impossible. Your best bet might be the Beijing Municipal Archives. They often have incredibly detailed records, though accessing them might require some Mandarin fluency or a translator. University libraries in Beijing, particularly those with strong history departments, could also house relevant theses or dissertations – students often focus on lesser-known aspects of major historical events. Don't overlook local museums either. Even small, seemingly insignificant museums can hold surprising local history collections. Finally, try searching for Beijing-based historical societies or genealogy groups; they often have informal networks and connections that could lead you to someone with firsthand knowledge or family stories passed down through generations. It'll take some digging, but the rewards could be amazing. Good luck with your search!

Beijing's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Tianzhu Country Club Golf Course

So, I'm heading to Tianzhu Country Club Golf Course next month. Heard it's ridiculously beautiful, but reviews are kinda scarce. Anyone know about the greens? Are they notoriously tricky, or pretty… more

Tianzhu? Wow, that's a pricey one. Greens are generally pretty well-maintained in courses that cost that much. Expect them to be fast and true, maybe a little undulated. Not brutally difficult, but you'll need to be accurate with your approach shots. Don't expect anything forgiving if your short game is weak... that'll be where you'll lose strokes. Bring plenty of balls. And maybe some calming tea... you'll need it after the inevitable water hazard encounter. Enjoy the scenery though! It's supposed to be stunning.
