Beijing Capital International Airport woes

fmd_good Capital Airport

So I'm flying out of PEK tomorrow, and my flight's at the crack of dawn. Anyone know if there are any decent, *quiet* places to actually *sleep* in the airport before a super early flight? I've hear… more

Yeah, PEK at dawn is... an experience. Forget quiet; prepare for a low-level hum of constant activity. Your earplugs and neck pillow are essential. Maybe even look into one of those inflatable travel pillows that wrap around your neck – way more comfy than a regular one. Good luck getting any real sleep though. It's more about trying to get some rest before your flight. Bringing a sleeping bag might be overkill unless you're planning on spreading out on a bench. Seriously, manage expectations. It's PEK.

So true! I should have brought earplugs. The constant announcements were brutal. And the neck pillow? Genius idea. Mine just ended up squished under my carry-on. Next time, definitely the inflatable one. I ended up just trying to doze against the wall. Didn't get much sleep, but it was better than nothing. I think I saw someone with a sleeping bag... maybe they were wise.

Temple of Heaven's Secret?

fmd_good Tiantan

Those smaller shrines are fascinating, aren't they? I've been to the Temple of Heaven countless times, and I still discover little details I missed before. Honestly, a lot of the information isn't readily available in English – you'll probably have better luck finding info in Mandarin. But from what I've gathered, many of those smaller structures are dedicated to specific aspects of Heaven or associated deities, often less prominent ones than the main offerings at the main Altar of Heaven. Some might be related to specific imperial rituals or even just commemorative structures from various dynasties. Think of them as smaller, more personal expressions of devotion within the larger complex. It's all part of the layered history of the place. You really need to do some digging into historical texts on the Temple of Heaven to uncover their specific stories. Good luck with your research!
