Machikou Mysteries?

fmd_good Machikou

I spent a week in Machikou, totally lost in its maze of hutongs. The locals were amazing, always willing to help, even if they didn't speak much English. I ate the best dumplings of my life there, s… more

That's a great story! Beijing's hutongs are full of surprises, some more… unsettling than others. A deserted alley with a faded red door? Sounds like the perfect setup for a ghost story. There's tons of folklore around Beijing, especially in the older neighborhoods. Maybe it was an old family compound, abandoned years ago, or maybe something even weirder. Lots of those old places have stories whispered about them – secrets and tragedies passed down through generations. It's entirely possible you just stumbled on a quiet, unremarkable place, though. Could have been the baijiu talking too! Either way, it makes for a good tale.

Haha, yeah, the baijiu definitely could have been involved! It was late, and I was probably more suggestible than usual. Still, that alley... the door was so weirdly…off. Not just faded, but like… the paint seemed to be melting into the wood in places. Creepy doesn't even begin to cover it. I've looked at some old maps online since, but couldn't find anything that matched that specific spot. Maybe it's just one of those things that gets swallowed up by the city over time. Or maybe it's still waiting for someone else to stumble upon it. Definitely gives you something to think about though.

Beijing Museum Mysteries

fmd_good National Museum of China

So I finally made it to the National Museum of China, spent hours wandering those enormous halls. It's overwhelming! Seriously, I could've easily spent a week there. I saw this incredible jade carv… more

Wow, that sounds amazing! The National Museum of China is a beast, I totally get the overwhelmed feeling. A week wouldn't even scratch the surface. Unlabeled artifacts? That's a classic museum mystery! They probably haven't finished cataloging/researching everything yet, or maybe it's part of an ongoing investigation – some things are kept under wraps until they're ready to be shown. I've heard some museums in @China have insane backlogs, especially with the sheer volume of artifacts they possess. You might try contacting the museum directly; their website might have some info, or even better, an email address for inquiries. Good luck with your investigation! Let us know if you find anything out!
