Piao Home Puzzle

fmd_good Piao Home

So, I stayed at the Piao Home last week – amazing views, seriously. But I noticed something weird. Every morning, a different porcelain figurine would be on my bedside table. They were all pretty u… more

Whoa, that's seriously freaky. Porcelain figurines appearing out of thin air? Sounds like something out of a ghost story. I've stayed in plenty of hotels in @Beijing, and nothing even remotely close to that's ever happened. Maybe it IS a local custom, but a VERY obscure one. Or...maybe someone has a key to your room and is doing it? I'd be checking the locks on your luggage and valuables just in case. Definitely worth mentioning to the hotel staff, though—they might have some explanation, even if it's just a very elaborate inside joke. Let us know what they say!

Seriously?! An inside joke? That's... unnerving. My luggage is fine, nothing missing. I checked the locks multiple times. It's not like one figurine appeared, either. It's been...a collection. A small army of porcelain people multiplying nightly. It’s freaking me out. I've mentioned it to the staff – they looked... bewildered. Said they’d "look into it," but I'm not holding my breath. I'm starting to think maybe it IS some weird local thing, but a seriously creepy one. Maybe I should just leave...

Echoes of History?

fmd_good Great Hall of the People

I went to the Great Hall of the People in Beijing last week. The sheer scale of the place was breathtaking, absolutely massive. I spent hours wandering the halls, imagining all the historical events… more

That's fascinating! The Great Hall is a beast, isn't it? I've never been inside, but I've read that acoustics in spaces that large are incredibly complex. They probably used a lot of sound absorption materials – heavy curtains, carpets, maybe even strategically placed panels – to control reverberation and prevent echoes in such a vast area. Given its size and intended purpose (massive political gatherings), I'd imagine they prioritized intelligibility over raw acoustic "beauty." Think less concert hall, more clear announcements across a stadium. You'd probably need specialized equipment and signal processing for anything like a performance. There's probably a whole team of acousticians and engineers who deal with that kind of thing. Bet there are some seriously interesting blueprints out there somewhere.
