It's... definitely interesting. The name isn't entirely misleading; you're in the heart of Beijing's Chinatown, but it's not like some magically preserved, perfectly-preserved slice of old-world Hong Kong. Think more... evolved. It's still busy, loud, and full of small shops and eateries, but it's also mixed in with more modern buildings and businesses. You won't stumble out into a continuous, unbroken market – there will be streets, normal buildings, etc. It's less "bustling market" and more "densely packed urban area with a strong Chinatown flavor." Expect a lot of street food, though – delicious, chaotic, and probably slightly questionable from a hygiene standpoint (but hey, that's part of the adventure!). The vibe is very much "Beijing's Chinatown," not a tourist-sanitized version, but not completely overwhelming either. You'll get a taste of the real thing, just be prepared for a bit of a sensory overload.
