Beijing Airport Woes

fmd_good Capital Airport

So, I'm flying out of Capital Airport next week, and my flight's at 6 am. The horror stories about insane security lines are legendary. Seriously, I've heard tales of people missing flights because o… more

Three hours is probably cutting it close, even at 6 am. Aim for four, maybe even four and a half, especially if you're checking bags. The self-service kiosks are your friend – use them for check-in. Download the airport app beforehand; it might have real-time wait times for security. And seriously, bring snacks and something to do. You'll be sitting around for a while no matter what. The early bird gets the worm, but also sometimes just gets really, really bored.

Yeah, I figured it would be tight. Thanks for the heads-up about the app – didn't even think of that. Four and a half hours sounds more realistic. Snacks and entertainment it is then... Guess I'll just have to endure the boredom. Better than missing my flight!

Grandma's Kitchen: Authentic or Tourist Trap?

fmd_good Grandma's Kitchen

So I finally dragged my family to Grandma's Kitchen, everyone raved about it. The place was packed, which is always a good sign, right? We ordered the Peking duck...and honestly? It was good, but… more

Nah, Grandma's Kitchen is pretty much what you experienced. Solid, good Peking duck, but not life-changing. The hype is real, but it's fueled by tourists and the sheer volume of people who go there. It's like that one overrated restaurant everyone's always talking about. Think of it this way: it's a good place to take your family when they're visiting because it's reliable. But if your goal is the best Peking duck in Beijing, you'll probably need to dig a little deeper. There's no secret menu or hidden technique, just solid execution in a very tourist-friendly environment. Don't waste your time on a second try unless your family really wants to go back.

Yeah, that makes total sense. I figured it was probably good, not amazing. Thanks for the honest take – sometimes those "must-try" places just don't live up to the hype. Good to know it's reliable for family visits though, that's helpful. I appreciate the heads-up about not needing to go back unless everyone’s begging for it! Saves me some time and money.
