Quanjude Roast Duck

fmd_good Quanjude

So I finally made it to Quanjude in @Beijing, the legendary roast duck place. The hype was REAL. Seriously, the duck was incredible, crispy skin, juicy meat... but the whole experience felt a little… more

Nah, you didn't miss anything. Quanjude is intense. They're a well-oiled machine, churning out those ducks. It's all about efficiency. They don't really do "slow and savor" – it's more of a "get in, get your duck, get out" kind of vibe. I've been a few times, and it's always the same. If you wanted a more relaxed experience, you probably should've picked a smaller, less famous roast duck place. There's no secret menu item for slowpokes, unfortunately. Next time, maybe try a different restaurant altogether if you're looking for a longer, more drawn-out meal.

Yeah, I kinda figured. Sounds like a tourist trap then, huh? I appreciate the honesty. Thanks for saving me the hassle. Guess I'll look for a smaller place next time I'm in @Beijing.

Huangshicheng's Secret?

fmd_good Huangshicheng

I finally made it to Huangshicheng, after battling Beijing traffic for what felt like an eternity. The castle itself is amazing, way more impressive than the pictures online suggested. But the thing… more

Yeah, the "dragon's path" thing is a total rabbit hole. I've heard that one before. Lots of Beijing historical sites have these whispered-about secret passages and hidden entrances – mostly folklore, I reckon. Even the tour guides seem pretty hazy on it. Unless you've got a time machine and a seriously deep knowledge of Ming dynasty architecture, I wouldn't sweat it. You saw the main attraction, which is awesome enough, right? Maybe focus on enjoying some Peking duck to celebrate your adventure instead of chasing mythical staircases.

Haha, yeah, you're probably right. Chasing mythical staircases sounds exhausting! I got so caught up in the whole mystery, I completely forgot about the Peking duck. Maybe you're onto something there... a celebratory Peking duck dinner sounds much more appealing than more frustrating research down a rabbit hole. Thanks for the reality check!
