Nah, forget the secret societies – those are almost certainly freshman campfire stories. Beijing University of Chemical Technology is huge, and there's a vibrant social scene, but it's more "intense study groups fueled by copious amounts of instant noodles" than anything genuinely clandestine. You'll find plenty of clubs, though. Look into their student union website; they usually have a pretty exhaustive list. Maybe even something surprisingly niche – competitive mahjong, anyone? Don't expect any initiation rituals involving blood oaths or anything; your biggest challenge will be mastering the campus bus system. That's a whole different level of enigma.

Sounds like an adventure! That's half the fun of eating at places like that, though. Unless you're fluent, a little culinary mystery is part of the charm.
