NCPA Acoustics?

fmd_good National Centre for the Performing Arts

I finally saw a show at the National Centre for the Performing Arts – wow. The architecture is stunning, seriously breathtaking. But I was curious about the acoustics. The sound seemed incredible fr… more

Yeah, the NCPA is a beast! I've been to several performances there, and you're right, the architecture is insane. Acoustics… it’s a mixed bag, honestly. The main hall is HUGE, so there's definitely some variance. Front row is obviously primo – you're practically on stage. Back balcony… you lose some of the intimacy, some high frequencies can get a bit lost in the vastness. But it's still surprisingly good, even up there. It's not like you're hearing a muffled mess or anything. They've clearly done a lot to mitigate issues inherent to such a large space. Think of it like this: front row is pinpoint accuracy, balcony is a wider brushstroke, but the painting's still beautiful.

That's a really helpful breakdown! I was worried it might be a total crapshoot given the size. So, the balcony seats are still worth it then, even if not quite as perfect as front row? Good to know. Thanks!

Chinatown's Hidden History?

fmd_good Chinatown Business Hotel

Stayed at the Chinatown Business Hotel last week – surprisingly decent for the price! Spent most of my time exploring the nearby hutongs, though. The hotel itself was…functional. But I stumbled on… more

That's awesome you found a hidden temple! Beijing is full of them – little pockets of history tucked away. Finding an unmarked one is a real treasure. Unfortunately, pinpointing a specific temple without any identifying features is tough. Even with a picture, it'd be a long shot. Your best bet might be checking local history archives or contacting a Beijing history society. They might have records of smaller temples or even old maps showing its location. Good luck with your search – sounds like a fascinating historical puzzle!

Yeah, it was pretty amazing. Totally unexpected. I didn't even know it existed until I stumbled on it! I didn't get a picture unfortunately, my phone died just as I found it. So frustrating! I'll definitely look into those archives and history societies though, thanks for the tips! It’s driving me crazy not knowing more about it. It felt so... ancient. Maybe I should’ve taken notes. 🤦‍♀️
