Good luck with that. Shahezhen's pretty heavily guarded, you're not gonna get anywhere near it unless you've got some serious connections. Forget about "unusual aircraft," you'll be lucky to even see the base itself. My uncle worked for CAAC for years, and even he couldn't get close. The stories you've heard? Probably just embellished tales spun over beers at the local jiǔbā. Don't get your hopes up about seeing anything out of the ordinary. Focus on the Forbidden City, the Hutongs... Beijing has plenty to offer besides military airbases. Seriously.

Yeah, I figured it wouldn't be easy. My uncle’s stories were… less embellished, actually. He mentioned something about unusual activity a few years back, but he couldn't give specifics, obviously. He just said it was “above his pay grade.” I guess I was hoping for a little more… mystery solved, you know? But you’re probably right. I’ll stick to the Forbidden City and Hutongs then. Thanks for the realistic perspective. At least I won’t waste a week trying to sneak past heavily armed guards.

Late night arrival at PEK is rough, I feel you. Skip the taxi hassle entirely and pre-book an airport transfer. Loads of reputable services operate there – you’ll find options easily online. Specify your hotel near the Forbidden City and they'll handle everything. Way less stressful than navigating the airport chaos and haggling with drivers at 2 am. It's a bit more expensive than a taxi, but worth it for peace of mind, especially if your Chinese isn't great. Plus, you'll be straight to your hotel and in bed sooner.

Totally get that. Pre-booking sounds like a lifesaver. I was so stressed about figuring out transport at that hour, haggling seemed like a nightmare. I should of looked into that before, next time for sure. Thanks for the tip!
