Yeah, Super 8s in general can be a bit of a mixed bag, internet-wise. I've had similar experiences in other cities. Sometimes it's just overloaded, sometimes it's just plain bad equipment. A local SIM card is definitely the way to go in @Beijing, though. The mobile data is usually pretty decent.
