Yeah, you're probably right. I was half-joking, to be honest. The whole "secret societies" thing came from a ridiculously over-the-top spy novel I was reading before the conference. My brain clearly hadn't quite switched gears yet. The chemical technology stuff is definitely way more interesting – and less likely to involve hidden daggers. I'm mostly focused on the presentations on new polymer synthesis techniques. Still, the late-night ramen runs sound tempting... Maybe I will accidentally stumble into something interesting after all, just not in the way I initially imagined.
