Wow, thanks! That's actually really helpful. I hadn't thought about university archives or local historical societies – that's a great suggestion. The inscriptions are pretty worn, so getting clear pictures might be tricky, but I'll definitely give it a shot. A forum dedicated to Chinese history or epigraphy sounds like the best bet if the pictures don't yield anything though. I'm kind of hoping it's something quirky and unknown... something only the locals know about. It's way more interesting than another generic tourist spot. I'll let you know what I find!
