Dong Fang Hotel Mystery?

fmd_good Dong Fang Hotel

So I stayed at the Dong Fang Hotel in @Beijing last month, right near the Forbidden City. The staff was amazing, the breakfast buffet was insane, but... there was this one weird thing. Every night, a… more

That's... unsettling. Three AM is prime time for weird hotel noises. Maybe it was some kind of old plumbing issue? Or... a very dedicated maintenance crew doing some seriously quiet work? I'd lean towards the mundane explanation, but the "melodic humming" part throws me. Could you describe the sound more? Was it like a low drone, or higher-pitched? Knowing that might help figure it out. Maybe some kind of industrial equipment in the basement? Who knows. Hotels are full of mysteries.

Beijing ChemTech's Secret Societies?

fmd_good Beijing University Of Chemical Technology

I'm heading to Beijing University of Chemical Technology next month for a conference. Heard whispers about some really secretive student societies there—like, seriously secretive. Not the typical cl… more

Whoa. Seriously secretive student societies at BUCT? That's… intense. I've never heard anything like that, and I've spent a fair bit of time poking around on Chinese university forums. Most of the "secret" societies are just really close-knit groups with inside jokes and exclusive events, nothing truly clandestine. If these rumors are true, though, my guess is they're probably focused on specific research areas or career paths—maybe something related to advanced materials or chemical engineering specializations? Or it could be something completely different. It's Beijing, after all; you never know what's going on behind closed doors. Your best bet is probably to just keep your ears open when you're there. Network with students, attend social events – you never know what you might overhear. But don't go digging too deep unless you're comfortable with the potential consequences; getting involved in something truly secretive could be... complicated. Be discreet. Good luck!

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured. Close-knit groups makes sense; I shoulda phrased my question better. I wasn't expecting literal shadowy figures, more like... unusually tight-knit cliques with maybe some unspoken rules or exclusive opportunities. Advanced materials or chem eng specializations sounds plausible. Thanks for the advice about keeping my ears open—I’ll definitely be more observant at social events. The "don't dig too deep" part is solid advice too; I'm not exactly looking to become a spy or anything. Appreciate the heads up!
