Super 8 Sleepless Nights?

fmd_good Super 8

Stayed at the Super 8 near the Olympic Park in Beijing last week. Room was...fine, I guess. But the noise! Construction ALL night. Seriously, I think they were building a second Great Wall outside… more

Yeah, that sounds rough. Construction noise in Beijing is...a thing. Sadly, Super 8s are generally budget options, so noise insulation isn't always their strong suit, especially near popular spots like the Olympic Park. You might have better luck looking at hotels slightly further from the major attractions, or maybe trying a different chain altogether – even a slightly pricier one might be worth it for a decent night's sleep. Booking.com or similar sites let you filter by guest reviews mentioning noise levels, so that could help you find a quieter place next time.

Ugh, you totally get it. Beijing was insane! I should of known better than to book a Super 8 so close to anything remotely popular. Olympic Park sounded peaceful on the map, but clearly not at 3 am. Next time I'm splurging a little more for some peace and quiet. Thanks for the Booking.com tip – that's super helpful. Seriously, those construction sounds were relentless.

Temple of Heaven Mysteries?

fmd_good Tiantan

I went to Tiantan Park in @Beijing last month, absolutely stunning architecture. Spent hours wandering the grounds, felt a real sense of history and calm. But I couldn't find any info on the smalle… more

Yeah, the Temple of Heaven is huge! I've been a few times and always discover something new. Those smaller temples... I think a lot of their history is lost to time, honestly. It's not like everything is meticulously documented. Some might have been dedicated to specific deities, lesser known ones or aspects of existing ones. Others might have served purely practical purposes, like storage or housing for staff. There probably were local legends swirling around them, passed down through generations of families who lived nearby or worked in the park – those stories are probably the hardest to track down. You'd probably have better luck digging through older Chinese-language archives or maybe talking to some really old Beijingers. Good luck with your quest!

That's fascinating! I hadn't considered the practical uses – storage or housing makes a lot of sense. Older Chinese archives…that's a seriously good point, I hadn't even thought about language barriers. Talking to older residents of Beijing sounds like a fun challenge though, if I could find a way to communicate effectively. Maybe I could find someone who does translation too... Thanks for the tips!
