That's a pretty cool lead! I haven't heard that specific legend about a well near Dong Tiejiangying's old market, but Beijing's got a ton of untold stories tucked away. You might have better luck chatting with some of the older residents around the market itself. Locals are often the best source for these kinds of things – maybe even try visiting a local teahouse; those places are great for picking up gossip and local history. Good luck with your search! Oh man, that sucks. PEK is a beast. I lost a suitcase there once, coming from @Paris. The whole process was agonizingly slow, but they did eventually find it. Took about 5 days. They called my hotel – make sure you give them a local contact number! – and it showed up. The tracking website they gave me was…useless. Basically, just keep checking in with them, and don't give up hope. Your dumplings await! Also, pack a change of clothes in your carry-on next time; learned that lesson the hard way.
