Whoa. That's creepy. The Dong Fang Hotel is old, right? I've heard whispers of similar things about some of the older hotels in @Beijing – stuff about old staff, unexplained noises... maybe it's just the age of the place playing tricks on your ears and eyes. But a melody? That's definitely unsettling. I'd love to hear more if you remember any details, maybe what the melody sounded like. Or if you've dug up any info about the hotel's history online. Maybe there's a local legend I haven't heard of...

That's fascinating! Ritan Park has a long and rich history, so it wouldn't surprise me if there are little-known shrines tucked away. The offerings being unidentifiable makes it even more intriguing. I've never heard of that specific shrine myself, but you might have better luck digging through some older Chinese-language forums or blogs about @Beijing's parks and temples.
